<p>Like most overweight people, I've been struggling to lose weight almost all my life. And over the years, I've managed to shed a few pounds here and there only to pile it up on again later and more. Just like most people too.</p>
<p>And I've tried all the tricks in the book to lose weight. I've gone on diets (crash and otherwise) numerous times that I've lost count. I've tried to be more … err.. active and resorted to jogging, swimming and other physical pursuits to lose those unwanted calories. I also joined expensive gym for the purpose. In fact, I have fast for three months straight for three years …. just so that I can lose weight. And yes I did lose some weight … again only to pile up the pounds again.</p>
<p>And as I got older, I became more sedentary and before I knew it I've already becoming an obese person. My weight has shot up to nearly 310 pounds - a huge person indeed on a 5 feet 7 inch frame. And along the way, I've become more unhealthy and was almost always sick. My condition worsen to the point that I can even bend myself to tie my shoe laces, and my joints are in perpetual pain.</p>
<p>Still, I eat on. After so many futile attempts to lose weight with no apparent results, I've decided that enough is enough. I am no longer interested to lose weight. I believe that I was destined to be an obese person forever. I was not happy with my condition but really what can I do? So I resorted to food and more food. Before you know it, I've ballooned up even more.</p>
<p>Until one day, a colleague suddenly collapsed at work due to heart problem. That was a real eye opener and jolted me back to reality. I need to stay healthy not only for myself but also for my family especially my young kids. They need me. And I need to be not just thin but more importantly healthy.</p>
<p>The realisation sets in. I no longer need to lose weight to fit into that nice looking attire. I no longer need to lose weight to look good. I NEED to lose weight to be healthy.</p>

<p>Patients with a stubborn weight problem usually have underlying digestive issues. Many of these people, because their digestive system is compromised, experience food intolerances.</p>
<p>An intolerance to a particular food, or family of foods, is a condition that often comes in under the radar.  A patient may have complaints that include bloating, swelling legs, a rash, a filmy white coat on the tongue, feeling full in the upper right quadrant of the abdomen, irritability, restlessness, and back or shoulder pain.  These complaints, either alone or in any combination, may indicate a food intolerance.</p>
<p>A forty- two year old woman gained over 35 pounds with the birth of her second child. She was unable to lose the weight. She consulted a weight loss clinic, followed the program to the letter, and though it was an excellent program, she did not lose even one pound after almost four months on the program. Part in frustration and part in concern, she consulted a medical doctor who suggested surgery. She declined. When I checked her with muscle response testing, it was determined that she was reacting to nuts and cheese, the very things she frequently snacked on. After removing nuts and cheese from her diet, she lost almost eight pounds in three weeks.  </p>
<p>Oversensitivity to Stress</p>
<p>When you have a sensitivity to the amount of stress you live under, and when you eat during those times, you may experience bloating, flatulence, belching, and a burning sensation. Gastritis and other stubborn symptoms of stressful digestion are reported. When your body is under stress, your digestive system is affected. Often at that time, you may develop food intolerances.       </p>
<p>Mr. B., age 69, came to my office wanting to lose weight and improve his energy. His body shape was the classic liver belly, a large protruding abdomen. After two weeks on the liver enhancement diet and supplement program, along with eliminating dairy, he began to lose weight. After several months, he had lost 20 pounds. Even more importantly, he stated that he has more energy and vitality and has not felt this good in 40 years! </p>
<p>Your body’s reaction to certain foods may start with your digestion, yet it can act as a stressor to your whole system, affecting other areas and bodily functions. </p>
<p>When our system is stressed in any of the areas of the Triad of Health; structural, chemical, or emotional, the body responds with the same stress response, no matter the source.  The brain stimulates the adrenal glands to release cortisol, which acts on the liver to break down glycogen into sugar for “fight-or-flight” which in turn triggers the release of insulin.  The insulin brings the sugar into play for action, and if none is needed by the muscles, the sugar goes back to the liver. If not needed there because the liver has reached its maximum capacity for it, it goes to fat storage.</p>
<p>Thus, as our bodies adapt to a chronic state of stress, say a structural or emotional stress, our hormones become out of balance creating an additional chemical stress on our system.   </p>
<p>Good News</p>
<p>The good news is that there are protocols to determine which foods are the culprits if food intolerance is the issue.  Eating healthy, natural foods and knowing which foods to stay away from, along with exercise, is a way to successfully release fat and keep the weight off.</p>

<p>There are a number of different styles of vegetarians. Here are some of those vegetarian varieties.</p>
<p>	Strict vegetarians or vegans - Avoid all animal products. This is not just meat and milk, but also items such as honey. Their diets consist of protein from seeds and beans, plant based fats, and fruits, vegetables and grains.<br />
	Raw vegans - In addition to taking part in a vegan diet, raw vegans also eat foods in a raw form, meaning these foods come in their natural form and are not treated.  Many parts of a raw vegan diet would be sprouted grains, untreated plant fats, and living as well as fermented foods.<br />
	Lacto-ovo vegetarians - Not all vegetarians avoid all animal related items. Lacto-ovo vegetarians think consumption of milk and eggs are ok. That is where the name came from dairy - 'lacto', eggs - 'ovo'<br />
	Pesco- and pollo-vegetarians - Some vegetarians still eat some kinds of meats in limited quantities.   Pesco-vegetarians believe in addition to a high in fruits, vegetables and beans diet that adding some fish in is alright.  Pollo-vegetarians believe that some chicken is an acceptable addition to their otherwise completely vegetarian diet.</p>
<p>So, why does a vegetarian diet work so well to lose weight and keep it off? The answer is simple. Since the majority of the foods that are accepted on a vegetarian diet are very low in calories you can still have large dishes of food without the high caloric intake price. That means you can fill a plate, fill your stomach, and still keep your calorie count low, and help control your appetite, which will lead to weight loss.</p>
<p>But you can't just eat as much as you want on a vegetarian diet. While most of the foods are very low in calories, there are still some that can cause you to keep the pounds on and even add a few here and there.  If your vegetarian diet is filled with items made with coconut oil or other vegetable oils, the fat content in those ingredients can keep you from losing weight.  That's why it's important to focus on the high-fiber fruit, vegetable and grain items on the vegetarian diet.</p>
<p>If you have been on the weight loss merry-go-round for too long, or just would like to start a healthier life, a long-term change of your diet may be the answer. With proven positive health effects it is a common sense solution.
